Home Tour: Dining Room

We moved into our first home a year ago and I'm still working on getting a lot of the rooms finished. It takes me time (and money!) to design each room, and things are coming along slowly but surely. The dining room is just about done, other than I still want to change the light fixture. Here's what it looked like when we moved in...

And here's what it looks like now...

One of the first updates we made was paint. We chose Grey Owl by Benjamin Moore and used it throughout most of our home. It's a great neutral color and a nice cool tone. Our dining space is small and just off the kitchen (which is to the left in the pic above) but it's just the right size for a table and four chairs. When we have guests over I can add another leaf to the table to accommodate more.

I love the Eames chair, but my budget couldn't afford them. So I got knock-offs here and here. I love the modern lines it has and the classic white color. Plus the plastic base is easy to wipe clean after having a meal with two kids. :)

I just love photographer Max Wanger (I blogged about him here). His photos are so dreamy and inspiring. This ocean picture is his 'tulum' print and I just adore it. Every time I look at it, it just makes me happy. :) And I feel so grown up owning such a large piece of art.

I also re-stained the dining table. With all the cool tones in the room I felt like the space needed wood to bring in some warmth. And to tie the chairs in I decided to 'dip' the legs in white paint. The rug is one that I painted a few years back that you can read about here. It has really held up and since it's painted, it's great for under a dining table. Any spilled food or drink just wipe off and don't stain.

So that's it! If you have any suggestions for a light fixture I'd love to hear them. Just let me know in the comments. :)

Statement Chairs {One Kings Lane}

I was recently contacted by One Kings Lane about featuring my favorite statement chair in my home. I immediately thought of this Ikat chair, I simply love the print! When we moved into our new home, I needed to get furniture for our living room. So when I spotted these cute chairs I knew they'd be perfect.

They add a 'pop' of pattern to the room and of course work with my navy and yellow color scheme. I love how the pattern seems to brighten up the space without being too overwhelming.

I also love the modern clean lines of the chair. I think the simple design allows the bold pattern to really shine. The pattern also seems to compliment the rug nicely. I love mixing a floral pattern with a geometric one.

So if you also love statement chairs then go check out the Home Decor Resource Guide over at One Kings Lane. I had fun exploring the site and all the different photos and articles. It's a great resource tool whether you're designing a room or just want to add a little more personality to your space. It also really helps you define your personal style.

If you're a chair and design lover like me, then you'll love One Kings Lane. You can also shop around and find your perfect statement chair or other piece of furniture. I know I'll be back to visit the Resource Guide, it's filled with tons of inspiration.

Do you have any statement chairs in your home?

Recent Purchases and Wants

Hi Readers! I'm back from my fun-filled vacation in Utah. I had a grand old time visiting Disneyland (twice!) and spending time with my family. But I can't lie, it feels good to be home again. I picked up a few cute things over the break and I also have my eye on some pretties that I wanted to share with you.

First up, my recent purchases...

I picked up this cute jacket when Anthro was having their additional % off, and I'm so glad I did. It's a really substantial piece that looks and feels great on.

I also got this cute little top with the additional % off, but I got it in the cobalt blue color. It's a great top to wear when out running errands and one that I can easily dress up with a statement necklace. Plus, the mix of materials keeps it interesting.

This cardigan is so lovely in person. It's hard to see in the pic but it has little sequins woven throughout it that add a little sparkle. It's really soft and the color will go with just about everything.

I also picked up these cute boots, and they are so comfortable on! I love the little bit of fringe and that they are a flat boot, which is what I live in right now (car seats, heels and ice don't mix!). FYI, I ordered a 1/2 size down since I found them to stretch out.

Now on to my wants...

I love this little tunic dress. The print is gorgeous and will transition into Spring quite nicely. I think it will look cute paired with some leggings and boots.

This cardigan is so soft and cozy. Plus, I love the eyelet lace detail in the front and back.

So what did you pick up over the holidays? And what do you have your eye on??

We Search. We Find. We ShopStyle!

I love fashion and personal style. I had a great opportunity to express my own personal style by partnering with the POPSUGAR team and was lucky enough to participate in their new We Search. We Find. We ShopStyle advertising campaign. I received a background and t-shirt in the mail to create my own lay down, just like the ones in their new print campaign.

ShopStyle is a great way to shop since you have all the latest trends in fashion and accessories at your fingertips. It's makes it so easy to find what you love with a variety of brands all in one place.

For my lay down I chose my favorite items in my closet right now, which are tunics! For a mom of two little ones, tunics are what I'm wearing right now.
