Home Tour: Dining Room

We moved into our first home a year ago and I'm still working on getting a lot of the rooms finished. It takes me time (and money!) to design each room, and things are coming along slowly but surely. The dining room is just about done, other than I still want to change the light fixture. Here's what it looked like when we moved in...

And here's what it looks like now...

One of the first updates we made was paint. We chose Grey Owl by Benjamin Moore and used it throughout most of our home. It's a great neutral color and a nice cool tone. Our dining space is small and just off the kitchen (which is to the left in the pic above) but it's just the right size for a table and four chairs. When we have guests over I can add another leaf to the table to accommodate more.

I love the Eames chair, but my budget couldn't afford them. So I got knock-offs here and here. I love the modern lines it has and the classic white color. Plus the plastic base is easy to wipe clean after having a meal with two kids. :)

I just love photographer Max Wanger (I blogged about him here). His photos are so dreamy and inspiring. This ocean picture is his 'tulum' print and I just adore it. Every time I look at it, it just makes me happy. :) And I feel so grown up owning such a large piece of art.

I also re-stained the dining table. With all the cool tones in the room I felt like the space needed wood to bring in some warmth. And to tie the chairs in I decided to 'dip' the legs in white paint. The rug is one that I painted a few years back that you can read about here. It has really held up and since it's painted, it's great for under a dining table. Any spilled food or drink just wipe off and don't stain.

So that's it! If you have any suggestions for a light fixture I'd love to hear them. Just let me know in the comments. :)

I love your style, Jessica. It's modern and simple, yet with a fun and specific look. I like knowing all of the details, like how you have created (DIY) many pieces and picked up a variety of things at random places and made it all come together with such purpose. Think you can come to my house and make everything look like it fits together?? :)

I love this room. It is very pretty and soothing. I love that print! We chose Moonshine, but were so close to picking Grey Owl. I just wasn't brave enough to go one shade darker. Kudos for being brave! It looks fantastic!

Yay!! A home tour, lol!! Love the room and love the mod styling! I have a couple of light fixtures in my kitchen and hall that you may be interested in for the dining room. I wish I had pics for you, but you can look them up on Home Depot's web site. They're a semi mount quatrefoil drum shaped fixture that comes in an antique bronze finish(I painted mine aqua). Just a suggestion! Love the room and hope to see more!!

Jessica,
I am not sure if you have an Ikea in your neck of the woods, but the BOJA Pendant would look great in your place. Link: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70155036/

You have a unique style that I like. I love the tables dipped legs!
